The Great Wildebeest Migration, is one of the “Seven New Wonders of the World”. No where in the world is there a movement of animals as immense as the wildebeest migration, over two million animals migrate from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. The migration has to cross the Mara River where crocodiles will prey on them when they move to Masai Mara around September. This is one of the highlights as the Migration tries and crosses the Mara River alive. The Migration crosses the Mara River again around Nobember and come back to Serengeti National Park and they head to South Serengeti. December through March when they give birth to their young at Ndutu Area (Ngorongoro Cnservation Area.)
Monthly Movement of the Migration
November: The Migration can sense new rain from South then crosses Mara River to go to Tanzania side.
December: Anual birth peak season of Zebra foals Since November, the Migration has left Masai Mara towards the Southren plains, South Serengeti and Ndutu Area seeking for nutrious grasses.
January: Anual birth peak season of Zebra foals The Migration reaches the South grass plains of Ndutu Area.
February: Birth of Gnu calves The Migration reaches Ndutu Area.
March: Birth of Gnu calves The Migration stay Ndutu Area. Heavy rains are coming in from the North.
April: The Migration is slowly moveing towards Central Serengeti, Seronera. Plenty of wildlife can be seen around Seronera.
May: Western corridor of Serengeti provide new food therefore the Migration moves North, from Central Serengeti up to the Grumeti River.
June: End of the rainy season The Migration is in Western Corridor of Serengeti. The Migration crosses the Grumeti River and it is providing an annual feast for the resident crocodiles.
July: The Migration enters Grumeti Controlled Area and it move Northward, while a small prorortion of the Migration moves for Lobo Area in Serengeti.
August: The Migration reaches Ikorongo Controlled Area.
September: The Migration crosses Mara River where crocodiles will prey on them towards Masai Mara Game Riserve.
October: The Migration is in Masai Mara Game Reserve.
